Business Internships

Posted: 1/7/2007 by Staff

Business internships are very helpful procedures to help determine whether the classes which are part of your MBA curriculum are leading to the job results which you may have anticipated in the cataloging of your strengths and weaknesses. Especially if you are trying to remedy some weakness in your resume, business internships can be a significant force in your ability to locate and gain work experience in your chosen field.

Good business internships are hard to come by, particularly paid positions. A few are generally available but chances of being chosen are limited usually to those students with high GPA's. The best alternative way of finding a good business internship is to go out and create one. If you find an industry or nonprofit organization which interests you or fills in gaps in your resume, approach the human resources people in the organization about creating a position which will allow you to further your learning and will provide actual assistance to the business as well.

If you enlist the help of your faculty advisor it will add needed credentials to the internship program and will create added relationship between the school and the particular business.

Another way to obtain business internship type experience is to volunteer at a nonprofit organization or a governmental organization. Although you don't receive payment for such volunteer work, you do have more control of the work you do and it will be most helpful later on when providing work experience information during your job search
