What Makes A Good Business School?Posted: 1/15/2007 by Staff Today, there are many more people trying to get into the top name schools than there are slots available. But, just because the business school has a big name doesn't necessarily mean it is a good business school for everyone. Granted, a highly recognized name is going to assist greatly in finding work after graduation with that coveted MBA degree, but there are other things which a prospective employer will look at in making a selection for top management positions in the company. Primarily, a good business school is going to be interested in what happens to the student after graduation. There should be a strong emphasis on real life experience, which balances the formal book learning. An internship of several months is a highly recommended part of the curriculum of a good business school. A strong plus factor in choosing a good business school is the faculty. It is particularly advantageous to find faculty members who have had strong experience in the business community and have formed the networking ties, which are so critical in finding positions following graduation. Another factor in determining the quality of the business school is the reports by graduates, particularly recent graduates. Are they finding success in their chosen field? Has the faculty and staff of the business school been helpful in fostering that success? Formal accreditation reports can also be helpful in choosing a good business school. These are usually done periodically and rank various schools and locations according to factors such as class size, location, faculty degrees and cost. |
